Joomla can be referred to as an amazing piece of software. Once you know exactly how to use it, the software is really user friendly. The latest version of Joomla has come a long way in usability. However, for a novice in this field who has never used CRM, the whole idea of using Joomla can be quite overwhelming. This is exactly now one feels when installing Joomla for the first time.
There are three types of extensions for Joomla namely; components, plugins and modules.
Components:
This is a separate application altogether. It has its’ own database, functionality and presentation. Hence, if you install a component, you tend to add an application to your website. Forum, community system, photo gallery are all good examples of component.
Modules:
These are actually extensions that work towards providing some pieces of information on your site. It is a way to present an information that’s already present. This can easily add a novel function to an application that’s an integral part of your website already. You may have a good number of modules on every web page. No module has a significance as a standalone application.
Plugins:
These are known as mambots in Joomla1.0. However, after the introduction of 1.5.X, these are known as plugins. It is a type of function that’s performed on a specific part of Joomla.
There is a difference between all the three types of extensions as mentioned above. You need to understand the differences clearly in order to enjoy the benefits.
