The Inevitable Paradigm Shift
Nowadays, you can no longer deny how influential the Internet has become in our daily lives. The way we run our businesses, the way we process the dissemination of information, even the way we handle our personal relationships, we rely on the Internet for all of these and more. Thus, it can safely be said that the Internet has caused such a paradigm shift in today’s society.
Getting Noticed on the Web
Establishing web presence is quite tasking because there are just so many websites popping from just about anywhere. If you own a particular website and you want to establish web presence, just what can you do to make your target audience notice your website amongst the million others out there?
The Answer: Search Engine Optimization or SEO
The goal of SEO is to attract more visitors to certain websites. The key to doing this is to employ certain methods for these websites to achieve higher rankings in search engine results. When you search for ‘laptops for sale’ on Google, for instance, you will surely find a lot of pages of search results. The ones found atop the list are the ones that have effectively employed SEO. With them on top of the list, there are more chances of people searching for ‘laptops for sale’ to click on their websites!
How to Get Search Engines to Notice You
There are actually two effective methods that you can employ to achieve this: PPC ads and organic searches.
PPC Ads or Pay-Per-Click Advertisements
This is the system used by Google Adwords. What basically happens is webmasters place bids on popularly-searched keywords of phrases. The highest bidders for a certain keyword would then be given an ad spot on the Google search engine page when surfers search for that particular keyword. This increases the chances of their ads getting clicked, which in turn means potential revenue.
Organic Searches
Search engines actually evaluate websites via spiders. These are programs that scan websites randomly to collect information about them. The spiders then collate the gathered information and then pass them on to the different search engines that are employing them.
The Power of Search Engines
You just cannot deny the power that comes with search engines. When a person goes online to do some research on, say, the late President Abraham Lincoln, what would that person most likely do? You cannot expect a person to know the URLs of websites featuring information all about Abraham Lincoln right off the bat. That is, unless the person has already done some research on Lincoln before, and has already bookmarked a couple websites or more. But at the very start of research here, that person would visit a search engine first to gather information about Abraham Lincoln. And if you operate a website that contains relevant information about Lincoln, and you yourself know that your content can help the person a lot, then wouldn’t you want to have your website appear at the top of the search engine results? Such is the importance of SEO. Really, this can either make or break the very website that you are operating.
