Start by making a list of your family and friends.
The business owners on that list may be great prospects for your service. But also keep in mind the “six degrees of separation”.
Someone you know will know someone who will know someone who will know someone will know someone who can connect you to literally anyone on the planet.
So start thinking “Who do your friends and family know?” To connect you with local business owners you’re really only talking two or three degrees of separation.
The people you know can help put you in touch with a whole world of business owners.
And once you talk to the people your friends of friends know there will be more business owners than you’ll have time to see as long as you approach the process the right way.
What is the right way?
Just explain that you’re looking to help a few selected businesses improve their website marketing and you’d like to speak to a few owners to see if you might be able to help them out.
At worst they’ll get a few good ideas…at best they might get a chance to substantially increase their profits.
Be as LOW KEY as possible.
A low key approach will get you a lot of appointments. No one wants to feel like they’re going to be subjected to a hard sell.
On the other hand they don’t mind having a chat about some marketing ideas that might be useful to increase their sales and profits.
They won’t mind having an expert critique their website to see if it can be improved to bring in more sales.
If you have a bit more experience you can tell your friends you normally charge $100 to $500 for a website marketing critique but you’ll give one to their friends as a complimentary gift.
